While a bit simpler than a full, traditional wedding, a courthouse wedding in Milwaukee County does require a little advance planning. Cream City Weddings provides two special courthouse wedding packages. These packages insure you’ll have wonderful memories of your special day, but before you hire us, you’ll need to take care of a few other details.
Picking a date. Popular courthouse wedding days and times do fill up fast so if you’d like to plan a courthouse wedding, contact them first to secure your date. Call (414) 278-4067. This will be your actual wedding date and time. For your wedding license, one of you must be Milwaukee County resident to pick up a marriage license at the courthouse. If you live out of state, you may also pick up your license at the Milwaukee County courthouse if you’re getting married there (or within Milwaukee County).
When to get your license. Once you have your courthouse wedding time set, you’ll need to get your license. Marriage license applications must be complete at least seven days but not more than thirty days before your wedding date. Marriage license applications may be filled out at the Milwaukee County courthouse in room 105, Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM.
What does it cost. A marriage license costs $110 and the fee for a courthouse wedding is an additional $100. Cream City Weddings offers a $299, one-hour, basic courthouse photography package as well as a $449 package that also includes a seasonal bouquet and boutonniere. Both packages include an online gallery and all digital photo files.
Wedding day details. When you book your courthouse wedding date, they’ll confirm the time for your ceremony. We recommend you show up 20 minutes before your scheduled ceremony time to pick up your license in room 105 of the courthouse. With your license, you’ll head up to room 400 for your ceremony. Once everyone in your party is present, take your license up to the courtroom guard who will give it to the commissioner and call you in when the commissioner is ready to perform your ceremony. Ceremonies take about 10 minutes and couples are welcomed to bring guests. We’d recommend no more than a dozen as the commissioner’s room is not that large. After your ceremony we’ll take portraits of you and your guests, usually on the first floor where marble staircases and beautiful windows provide wonderful lighting and backgrounds. If you’d like additional photos, Cream City offers additional hours of photography to go to an area park or other location for more photos.
