Three Reasons to Invest in a Wedding Album

We’ve said over and over, besides each other, when your wedding is over, all you’ll have left are memories. And the best way to preserve those memories is with a professionally designed wedding album. An album? Isn’t that old fashioned? What about digital files on my cell phone? Well yes, the wedding album is the “classic” way of displaying your favorite wedding photos, but it’s also proven to be the best. Sure, Cream City does offer digital files with all of its packages but is it really the best way to preserve and share your images for the generations that will follow? Here’s three key points to consider about why a wedding album may be right for you.
Digital Files Can Be Lost, Technology Can Change
For as much as we use and trust digital media for our important documents and data, this information can be lost, corrupted or stolen just as easily as hard copies.  In our years of service to brides, we’ve always offered digital files with our packages but how many of you still have a disc drive on your lap top? For how long will USB drives truly be “universal”?  Even with the cloud, we’ve had couples who’ve never downloaded their wedding images. What good will that do them in 10, 25 or 50 years?  Digital backup files of  your wedding images is important, but it should not be your primary form of visual display.  Printed photos and wedding albums never need software updates, they can be viewed by anyone without any special technology and will be viewable for decades, if not centuries.
Telling Your Story
Just having your wedding photos does not necessarily tell your special story. Most photographers will give you hundreds, if not thousands, of images from your wedding day. But who has the time, or desire, to scroll through that many images?  Part of hiring a professional  is not just the capturing of the moment, but the artistic skill to select, edit, and present just the right collection of images to take you on that journey back in time to relive your wedding.  Your wedding album is a carefully crafted presentation that you can easily, and joyfully, page through and enjoy today, tomorrow, and years from now. It is a personal statement bound in fabric, specialty paper, leather, or even a decorative box to preserve and protect your photographs.
Creating an Heirloom

Many of today’s brides will simply say, “a wedding album is just not for me.”  They’re right, it’s not for you, it’s for your children and grandchildren.  When you create a wedding album you’re creating an heirloom. Think about how many cell phones and computers you’ve already gone through in life. Are any of those items going to be around and actually function a few decades or even just a few years from now?  Printed photos and albums have proven to be the best and most long lasting way to preserve and share your images over time. Throughout history, wedding albums have served as an essential record of a family’s history.  When looking back, the only regret that many couples have is that they do not have enough photographs of their special day. Alternatively, those who took the time to create a wedding album always report happiness that they found a beautiful way to preserve their memories. With your album, you can quickly show off your wedding photos and talk about your special day.

My Real Life Story

So as I sit here writing about the virtues of buying a wedding album, I realize you may be asking, “What did you do for your wedding?”  Well, here it is, a couple images from my very own wedding album. I’m sharing this with you on my wedding anniversary, August 11. In the twenty-two years since I said ‘I do’ this book has been through moves from our condo to an apartment to our current home. It’s been through a house fire and near total rebuild of our home. It’s seen five cats and the loss of  nearly a quarter of the family and friends who attended our wedding. Through all of that it still works. We enjoy it each anniversary and don’t have to plug it in, update its OS, or wait for it to boot up. It works inside and outside, in the sun and shade. It’s been there for us, and like my grandparents’ wedding photos on my wall, will be there for our family for decades to come. Consider getting one for yourself, I highly recommend it.
